When you decide to open your own business, window cleaning or otherwise, one of the many decisions you need to make is your company name, logo, and tagline. It can come quickly, or it can be a mental drain. Either way … what happens if you want to change it? Should you?
Well, some people think you can. I disagree. Switching your branding mid-stream is never a good idea. People associate you with what they already know – your name, your logo, your tagline, your colors, your trucks … Whatever it is that you have used to brand yourself an make yourself memorable to your clients, they remember it. Do not change it.
Sadly, the general public does not remember much. In fact, a study came out that said email marketing needs to be sent out every 2 weeks or people forget who you are. Really?! They forget in a mere 14 days? Imagine the confusion if you changed your name. *smacks forehead*
That is not to say you can’t tweak things over the years. You could gradually change the font from a boring Times New Roman to a snazzy Lobster Bold, or add a more professional graphic than the ubiquitous squeegee clipart. Can we just stop that, please? You can develop your brand over the years – just do not change your name. You picked it – work with it.
Hire a professional copywriter to come up with an awesome tagline. Pay for a nice graphic or a custom logo design. Work with what you have to create a better, overall package. I once saw a lawn guy with the tagline, “Steve’s Lawn Service: We kick grass!” LOVE it! What can you do this year to tweak your stuff?
