You may think, what the heck is a gooseneck?
Pure water window cleaning is exploding the world over for professional window cleaning. There are many components, pieces, and technologies involved in water fed technique.
In every system on the market, there is a piece connecting the water pole to the brush. There is somewhat of an industry standard sized tool. However, there are also a wide variety of other “gooseneck” options as well.
Gooseneck- the name that stuck for the tool used to function as a transition from the pole to the brush. The piece commonly will have an adjustable joint in the middle and extend or change the angle. Sounds simple! There are some parts and options we can discuss a little further about goosenecks. By the end, you should be able to figure out exactly which options will give you the attachment you need.
GOOSENECK BASE
Starting at the bottom of the gooseneck, where the unit attaches to the pole may change depending on the waterpole you are using. In our inventory, goosenecks are split into stem and threaded attachment styles. It is important to know the tip style of your waterpole while shopping for a gooseneck.
There are a variety of waterpoles on the market, some feature a “euro thread” top piece while others have more of a female socket. Unger, Ettore, and Tucker waterpoles features a euro thread tip. For the threaded versions, these poles need the “threaded” style of attachment. The stem style attachments have a stem piece that inserts into the end of the pole fitting and secures in place, usually with a clamp that is mounted on the pole. Our best-selling Gardiner Poles, features this stem style of attachment on their waterpoles.
GOOSENECK MIDDLE
Moving up from the base of the gooseneck, you get to the bent portion of the gooseneck. There are two styles: adjustable and non-adjustable. The non-adjustable are constructed of carbon fiber or aluminum. These offer greater strength and greater lengths for reaching in to deeper set windows.
All of our non-adjustable goosenecks at Detroit Sponge have stem bases. With the carbon fiber construction, there are options from 12” up to the deep reaching, 48”. These are champs when reaching deep recessed glass. The adjustable style features a dial or lever adjustment at the bend. This allows the angle to be varied as needed for challenges. Constructed of plastic, there are different lengths available as well. Typically, the deepest reaching version of an adjustable, plastic gooseneck is about 12 inches. These are available with threaded base or stem base attachment styles.
GOOSENECK TIP
At the end of the gooseneck, where the brush is attached, there are a couple of options available on the market as well. There is a socket square loc style, most commonly seen on the Gardiner line, and the euro threaded version. Whichever brush you like to use, there will be a gooseneck option to fit. In our language, we describe this as either threaded or square lock attachment.
In addition, the plastic, adjustable style goosenecks also provide the option of having a swivel attachment for the brush. Providing the option to “wag” or move the brush quickly side to side can be great for certain job sites. The swivel option, combined with the base attachment style and brush attachment style create a ton of options for the end of your water pole.
This simple connection piece, referred to as a gooseneck, has the ability to help you be more efficient in your water fed work. Whether you like threaded or stem style, adjustable or non-adjustable, short or super long, or swivel or stationery, there is an option for your waterfed work. At Detroit Sponge, we continue to expand the selection of goosenecks in our in-stock inventory. We always figure that more options and choices is a GREAT thing!
