Bronze wool can be a very handy tool for window cleaners. A fine grade of bronze wool will help to remove all sorts of stuck-on stuff from glass. Since the material is bronze, it will not rust as quickly as steel wool. This has been a top choice for extra scrubbing. Many customers have come into Detroit Sponge asking why they are not able to purchase bronze wool as easily.
Now, bronze wool pads are no longer available as they are currently not being manufactured by anyone. Unfortunately, this has been the reality for the window cleaning market for the last two to three years. While there is hope they will have the material to manufacture them again, many window cleaners are finding other scrubbing options.
Luckily there are other great wool and cleaning pad options in the market. The best, most used alternatives for window cleaning we have seen are the abrasive white scrub pads and the walnut pads. Both types of pads are safe to use on common glass surfaces. Although, we always advise trying the material out on a small spot to be sure.
STEEL WOOL
If you do not mind changing out your scrubbing pad often, you may want to consider our steel wool pads. The Ultra Fine 0000 Steel Wool is great for cleaning tough stains off glass. It is ultra fine and will not scratch. This is our most popular grade of steel wool. Use it for cleaning and polishing windows and metal, or even sanding wood. It is fine enough to not scratch glass while strong enough to do the job.
WALNUT SCRUB PADS
The 6×9 Inch thin Walnut Scrub Pad is made of polyester and walnut shells to provide aggressive cleaning power for a variety of surfaces. The Walnut Scrub Pad offers great abrasive action and is very durable. Made with renewable resource of crushed walnut shells. The walnut pad will provide aggressive cleaning action for virtually any surface.

WHITE SCRUB PADS
The White Scrub Pads are made of spun plastic fibers to power through stuck on stains but will not scratch glass. While any of these will work with our swivel pad holders, the 1-inch-thick white pads fit the best. These pads are available in two thicknesses.
