We have a lot of people come into our warehouse or call about tip on how to start their own window cleaning business. The window cleaning community is amazing and is understandable people want to join and be apart of it. Some have had experience and want to be their own boss while others are drawn in from what they have seen online. With practice of answering questions about business, we have come up with questions to consider as you start your own business.
- What type of client are you planning on pursuing? You can decide if your goal is residential, store front commercial, or larger commercial buildings. Many window cleaners will do a variety but have a heavy focus on one area of expertise.
- What area are you going to be working in? You may want to start with a broad area around you or pick an area with a large need for window cleaning.
- Do you expect to have employees to begin with or are you planning on starting as an owner operator? Again no wrong answer, just may depend on personal preferences or the type of jobs you may be taking on.
- Are you planning on working out of a truck, van, trailer or passenger car? Transportation is vital in running a business. This decision may be based on the equipment or employees you are transporting, gas prices, weather and insurance.
- Do you have any experience washing windows? If yes, what type of jobs have you serviced and how much experience do you have? While it may be easy to get into the business, there is skill involved in washing windows at a professional level. Working for someone or learning from an apprentice may be beneficial before going out on your own.
- What budget do you have for your initial window cleaning equipment investment? This amount can vary greatly from person to person. If you know what you are prepared to spend up front, that helps everyone. Some people come in and want to start with simple traditional cleaning, other here they excitement about pure water systems and will have to pay more in start up costs.
- How do you plan on marketing and securing customers? This is often over looked, but obviously is crucial to your success. What’s your plan to market your service? Many people start with social media or a website. We see others with print ads and signs.
