Advice about Pure Water System Connectors

Pure water systems can help your window cleaning business. From the lack of ladder use to the lack of chemicals, the pure water systems are fantastic tools.

With all the different systems on the market and available, one of the common questions is about the fittings on the systems. Water travels from the source, to the machine/pure water device, and then to the waterpole of your choice. But what size are the fittings? Which fittings are easy to find? Which ones are difficult to locate? Let’s discuss this a little bit.

INPUT FITTING:

Pretty much all of the pure water systems for window cleaning accept a standard, ¾” garden hose size fitting for the input water. This means that a standard hose will attach to the hose bip or water spicket at one end and screw into a female fitting on the pure water machine. These hoses are usually purchased at area big box stores or hardware stores and do NOT usually get shipped with pure water window cleaning machines. Most look like this:

The Unger Ultra HydroPower system ships complete with a fitting that screws on to the male threads of your hose and accepts a quick connect barb at the other end. This fitting will secure to the input fitting on the Ultra HydroPower system by Unger. This fitting looks like this:

As a bonus tip for this discussion While “pocket hoses” or soft hoses are very convenient, when using a multi stage they will cause issues. When Filter based pure water window cleaning system, we recommend that you stay away from the soft hoses.  The filter systems build up pressure and the soft hoses have been known to fail over time. With the soft texture – the hoses simply do not supply the same support as a regular, hard/firm construction garden hose.

OUTPUT FITTING:

The fitting on the exit side of most all pure water systems is most commonly designed for ¾” adapters as well.  This is standard garden hose size.  There are two versions supplied on the systems that Detroit Sponge sells.

TWO
Three
  • The Unger Ultra HydroPower features a female quick connect fitting. This will accept a male barb of a quick connect.  This male barb is commonly provided as a fitting that transitions from the ¾” standard size connection to the skinny, water pole hose line. These fittings are available with 2 different attachment options (one).
    • Mounted into the pole hose with a metal clamp collar (two).
    • A female port for inserting the pole hose into (three). These have a shark bite style fitting, allowing easy attachment and removal. Nice, but they do wear out more quickly than the permanently mounted version.

  • Multi stage, filter water purification systems feature a male ¾” threaded fitting on the exit. These are usually teamed up with a simple ¾” quick connect fitting that will receive a male barb fitting on one end and attaches by screwing on to the male threads at the other end.  These can be in two forms (one).
    • Simple fitting that screws on and accepts the barb on the other end (two).
    • Fitting that screws on, features a ball valve for flow regulation and then accepts a barb into the opposite end (three). This is the standard version that Detroit Sponge provides with all our filter water systems.
  • For the multi stage systems, a quick connect, barbed adapter then connects to the output and “steps down” to the pole hose size diameter.  This will be the same fittings as discussed about for the Unger Ultra HydroPower system. As explained, These fittings are available with 2 different attachment options:
    • Mounted into the pole hose with a metal clamp collar.
    • A female port for inserting the pole hose into. These have a shark bite style fitting, allowing easy attachment and removal. Nice, but they do wear out more quickly than the permanently mounted version.

From the exit, the water travels through the fitting and up the pole to the brush.

There are other options for hose connections that are in stock and available as well. For your consideration, there are on / off valves that accept the pole hose diameter on the input and exit for attachment to your pole line as well as a series of fittings called EZ Snap fittings. This can transition diameters and allow for quick connection to and detachment from various lengths and diameters of hoses.
