Get to Know your EcoCart System

One of the newer pure water systems on the market is the EcoCart by HydroSphere. The EcoCart is a multi-stage system with a RO/DI filtration system. This is the perfect system that produces more pure water for less and keeps up with the demand for water on the job. The EcoCart is now a best seller at Detroit Sponge for the high-quality design, easy to use, filtration and ready to work! This is a great economic system to get you started in the world of pure water cleaning.

Benefits of the System:

  1. High quality design: It has 10-inch wheels and a light, balanced design that makes it easy to move over any terrain. It’s light enough to get in and out of vehicles with ease. This system is made with high quality stainless steel and mounted onto an aluminum frame that will not rust.
  2. Easy to use: This system runs on tap water pressure only. No power, no pump required. Work up to 3 stories or 30 feet without adding a pump.
  3. Clean with any water: Because it is a multi-stage system, the HydroSphere EcoCart will easily purify water with readings of 300 TDS or more. With lower TDS numbers, the filters will last longer.
  4. Waterpole connection: Has a standard outlet that will work with the fittings included with any of our waterpoles, no matter what the brand. Choose the brand and length that fit your needs best. Many people pair this system with one of the Gardiner poles.
  5. Ready to work: The system comes with the filters already installed and ready to go. Just hook up a standard garden hose, run water through to remove the air, hook up your waterpole, and start cleaning.

Understanding the significance of maintaining and prolonging the life of your reverse osmosis (RO) filter is paramount for ensuring the continued delivery of clean and purified water. Taking proactive steps in filter care not only enhances the system’s longevity but also preserves its efficiency in removing contaminants. Regular maintenance, such as replacing filters and is key to preventing the accumulation of impurities that can compromise water quality.

Here are steps to prolong your filter life:

  1. Regular Pre-Filter Replacement: Managing and maintaining a regular and consistent pre-filter replacement schedule will extend your RO’s life as these filters are the first line of defense from chlorine and large particles from entering the RO membrane.
  2. Avoid Hot Water: RO filters are not designed for hot water. Using cold water ensures the membrane and filters are not exposed to temperatures that could compromise their integrity.
  3. DO NOT Let the RO Freeze: When storing your RODI system for the winter it’s imperative to not let the RO freeze. If the RO freezes it could cause the membrane to dry and crack jeopardizing the integrity and forcing you to an early replacement.
  4. Proper Maintenance Schedule: Follow a regular maintenance schedule by dedicating one or two responsible individuals to your RODI systems. Keeping a logbook or electronically keeping track of when all filter replacements have been made can be very beneficial of keeping the filter replacements organized.
  5. Pressure Check: Ensure that the water pressure entering the RO system is within the recommended range. Too high or too low pressure can affect the filter’s efficiency. Use a pressure gauge to monitor and adjust accordingly.
  6. Quality Water Source: Ensure your RO system is connected to a clean and quality water source. If the source water is heavily contaminated, it can accelerate the wear and tear of the RO filter.
  7. Avoid Chemical Contamination: Be cautious about introducing chemicals into the water supply connected to your RO system. Certain chemicals can damage the membrane and reduce the efficiency of the filter.
  8. Monitor TDS Levels: Keep an eye on your Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) levels in your water. A rise in TDS may indicate issues with the RO membrane. Regularly checking and addressing TDS levels can contribute to prolonging the life of your RO filter.

Maintaining clean filters in your EcoCart Waterfed system is essential for optimal performance. Here are the telltale signs that indicate it’s time to change your filters, ensuring your equipment continues to deliver pristine results with efficiency and effectiveness. Recognize when it’s time to replace the carbon/sediment, DI (Deionization) and Reverse Osmosis (RO) filters in your EcoCart water system. By understanding these signs, you can ensure your system operates at its best, providing you with consistently high-quality purified water for your window cleaning needs.

  1. Prefilter Replacement-Carbon/Sediment Filter: Think of the Carbon filter as the first line of defense. While this filter will remove particulates from the water, it also effectively removes chlorine, safeguarding your reverse osmosis filter and ensuring long-lasting performance. When residual chlorine comes into contact with the RO membrane, it can cause oxidation, leading to a decline in the membrane’s salt rejection rate. What to look for- Keep an eye out for signs such as decreased water flow, changes in water quality, unusual odors and or discoloration. The filter may even start to turn a rusty orange color. How frequently you use your water system in combination with the average TDS levels you are working with will dictate how often the carbon/sediment filter needs to be changed. Frequent replacement of the carbon/sediment filter is crucial due to its low cost and essential role in maintaining the efficiency and longevity of your EcoCart waterfed system.

  2. DI Filter Replacement: The last line of defense to deliver the purified water needed to achieve that spot free rinse. The DI filter employs ion exchange resins to effectively strip water of remaining impurities, ensuring a pristine, streak-free finish on your windows with each use. What to look for- If you’ve just recently replaced your carbon/sediment filter and the TDS levels still elevate beyond 10ppm, this could indicate that it’s time to replace your DI. It could also mean that your RO filter has failed and may need to be replaced as well. Other signs to watch for: a decrease in water purity, reduced water flow, or visible spotting/streaks on windows, indicating that the DI filter’s resin capacity is depleted, and a replacement is necessary to ensure continued spot-free results. Please note that when replacing your DI canister that the orientation is correct.
  3. RO Filter Replacement: A reverse osmosis (RO) filter for a purified water system in window cleaning works by forcing water through a semipermeable membrane at high pressure. This membrane allows water molecules to pass through while blocking contaminants, minerals, and impurities. What to look for- When your RO filter is failing in your EcoCart, look for signs such as decreased water flow, lower water quality with visible spotting and or streaks, unusual odor in the water, or high levels of total dissolved solids (TDS) in the output water. You can localize a water quality test with your RO by unscrewing the DI housing and then removing the DI cartridge. Simply screw the DI housing back onto the unit without the DI cartridge installed. Now when you run water through your EcoCart you will be doing so without the use of the DI filter. So hypothetically let’s say there’s 100ppm running through your system, your RO filter should be removing 90%-95% of the particulates; meaning that if you now test the water with your TDS meter the readout should be no higher than 10ppm. If your RO is not extracting at least 90% of the contaminants, then it’s time to replace it.

Maintaining clean and spot-free windows requires attention to detail, including regular maintenance of your EcoCart. We believe it’s a great idea to keep a log as to when you are replacing each filter. This helps keep tabs on who’s replacing the filters as well as when. By understanding when to change your filters and following proper replacement procedures, you can ensure that your system continues to deliver optimal performance and pristine results with every use. Stay proactive, stay informed, and enjoy crystal-clear windows year-round. Still have questions about the EcoCart?
