This past Sunday, I stood in my front window and stared at the neighbor’s house. I didn’t mean to be nosy, that’s not my general style. I couldn’t help it. My husband was cleaning the garage and ran in to tell me to look out the window. The older couple across the street had hired a window cleaner. The funny part was that he was using a power washer to clean the screens. I know, right?!
We live in Arizona now and, for those of you that don’t, the screens just get dusty. There is no sticky residue from tree sap. Nothing. Just a quick wipe with a damp huck towel and you are good to go.
So, back to the pressure washer, this very inexperienced window cleaner was blasting these poor screens with a pressure washer on full force. I kid you not. The screens were flying up three and four feet in the air and landing at the bottom of the driveway or in the street. He would get frustrated and run down after them, spraying all the landscaping with the pressure washers wand as he did. It was so comical; if I didn’t know any better, I’d think that an episode of Candid Camera was being filmed. When he finally finished, he leaned them up against the garage to dry and went inside … with a bottle of Windex. *groan*
Now, pressure washers (or power washers, if you prefer) can be a great add-on service, if you know how to use them properly. You can do serious damage to a house’s deck and exterior siding, if you are not careful. Also, please be advised that pressure washing usually requires a separate rider on your insurance policy; be sure to talk to your agent before hitting the on switch. The situation with the inexperienced window cleaner sounds hilarious! There’s a reason pressure washers are sometimes called “power washers;” they have a lot of power behind them. While they can be great for cleaning off cement or other hard surfaces, they can do some damage to other things, like window screens. Thanks for the article and the video.

I agree that pressure washers can be a great tool. If you know how to use them, pressure washers can clean a ton of different things around the house!However, using them to wash screens does seem a little overkill.
